Broadband Dsl Service
Types Of Broadband DSL Service
|
Broadband is a term used in telecommunication systems. It is a method of signaling, which handles a range of frequencies divided in to channels. Wider the bandwidth; greater is the capacity to carry the information. Broadband in communication of data means the same. Here data is transmitted in the form of signals over a transmitting medium like fiber optics, copper wire, etc from one machine to another. One of the standard types of broadband service is DSL or Digital Subscriber Line. Broadband DSL service is a type of broadband service that sends information on one channel and a voice over another channel, over a single pair of wires. Analog modems are also an example of broadband. DSL offers many types of broadband services to the users such as ADSL, CDSL, IDSL, SDSL, XDSL, G.Lite, HDSL and so on. Below are some of the DSL technologies and their uses: * ADSL, Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line: This type of DSL service has more downstream speed as compared to upload speed. It is a useful service for home and office applications. It has around 345 to 1500 kbps downstream speed and around 64 to 800 kbps upstream speed. The maximum distance at which this service could be made available to our home or office is 18,000 feet or 3.5 miles. If the destination is closer to the service, then a speed of 1.6 mbps is also possible. * ADSL-Lite Type of DSL: This is a service that provides a line to share a voice. It is an ADSL with 64 kbps to 384-kbps upstream rate and 1-mbps to 1.5-mbps downstream rate. This service can be made available up to 25,000 feet One pair ADSL- Lite can share a line with voice. * CDSL Type of DSL: Consumer DSL is a version of ADSL that has a regular support for 56 k modems, in case ADSL service is not available for some reason. It has 128 kilobits per second upstream rate and 1-megabits per second downstream rate. This service can be made available up to 18,000 feet and 1-pair, CDSL can share a line with voice. * G.Lite Type of DSL service: It does not require the need of a splitter to be used at the subscriber's end to separate out voice and data. While on the other hand the telephone might require a filter on its line to separate out the two. * HDSL Type of DSL service: High Bit Rate DSL service, which has a speed of 768 to 2.048 mega bits per second, is attainable at less than 12,000 feet. This type of service shares a line with voice with 3 pairs. Broadband DSL service is also universally available, provided the location of access gets qualified in several ways. For example, the location should be within the range of 18,000 feet, wiring in the location should be of superior quality and so on. In the future a dsl upgrade should be possible to allow even faster rates of data upload and download. |
